Power is supplied to passenger coaches from the locomotive via the train line. Static onboard inverters transform the high voltage from the train line into the desired load voltages. The control voltage necessary for operating the inverters is provided by a vehicle battery.
In the event of a flat battery, the static inverters and contactors are fed by the flat battery power supply for approximately 3 × 3 minutes directly from the high voltage of the train line.
