Energy supply: The future lies in direct current

Lecture on Testing Criterias and Related Parameters of DC High Power Contactors at the ESE conference 2020 in Düsseldorf.

Solar and wind power plants, energy storage systems, battery disconnect unit in electrical vehicles and many other areas of application work with DC technology. Safe switching under direct current creates new requirements for electromechanical components. They should be able to safely handle the high voltages and arcing that occur in DC applications and thus reliably switch them off. On the second day of the fair, March 11, 2020 at 2:05 p.m. Mr. Günter Rott, Head of Business Development Unit – New Energy at Schaltbau GmbH, will hold a lecture at the ESE conference about the testing criteria and associated parameters that the DC high-power contactors must meet to ensure the quality in the application.

Electromechanical High Power & High Voltage DC Contactors are mandatory in several applications in the new energy field to ensure a safe and reliable galvanic isolation. All possible operating modes (from normal to unnormal) have to be covered. Depending on the final application, the load and lifetime specification could have a wide range.
The dissertation focuses on the key parameter and related testing criteria, which have to be considered for the usage of DC-High Power contactors.
